Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery in Singapore

LAPAROSCOPIC & ROBOTIC SURGERY Singapore

Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery, also called Minimal invasive surgery (MIS), or keyhole surgery, is a modern surgical technique whereby surgery is performed using tiny cuts rather than traditional long incisions. Robotic Surgery is a type of Laparoscopic surgery which performed by specialised surgeon Dr. Jaideep Raj Rao at his clinic in Singapore.

There are a number of advantages to the patient with laparoscopic surgery versus the more common, open procedure. These include:

  • reduced pain due to smaller incisions

  • shorter recovery time

  • early return to normal activity

  • lower rate of wound infection

  • lower rate of long term adhesions

What surgeries can be performed through laparoscopic approach?

Nowadays, most surgeries can be performed laparoscopically. If somebody has had previous open surgeries or in case of very bulky tumours then open surgery may be preferred.

Common surgeries performed through keyhole technique:

  • Laparoscopic / Thoracoscopic Oesophagectomy (oesophageal cancer)

  • Laparoscopic Fundoplication (Gastro-oesophageal reflux)

  • Laparoscopic gastrectomy (Stomach cancer)

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (Gall bladder stones)

  • Laparoscopic pancreatectomy (pancreatic cancer)

  • Laparoscopic splenectomy (disorders of spleen)

  • Laparoscopic adrenalectomy (Adrenal tumors)

  • Laparoscopic adhesiolysis (intestinal obstruction)

  • Laparoscopic colectomy (colonic cancers)

  • Laparoscopic hernia repair (inguinal, femoral & ventral hernias)

  • Laparoscopic bariatric & metabolic surgery (weight loss and diabetes)

Robotic Surgery Singapore

Robotic surgery is a type of laparoscopic surgery where the surgeon uses a surgical Robot to perform surgery. The surgeon sits on a console and controls the robotic arms during the surgery.

The advantages of robotic surgery in Singapore include increased dexterity in performing fine movements, meticulous dissection and enhanced 3D vision. It also eliminates any tremors that a surgeon may have. In addition, the surgeon can perform intra operative CT guided surgery, sentinel lymph node navigation and ICG testing to check if blood flow to operated areas is satisfactory

Robot-assisted surgery has been shown to have less blood loss in many cases, however the surgery is more expensive due to the use of sophisticated instrumentation.
